2013 SEARCH FOR BLUEBONNETS

We have fallen in love with the beautiful Texas bluebonnets and the beauty that spring brings to the Hill Country of Texas.  The flowers were so pretty last year, but we were there the end of the 3rd week in April and that was almost at the end of the big flush of blooms, so we tried it the end of the first week of April this year.  We had a great time and enjoyed every minute of the trip, but you just can never recreate "the moment."  Sort of like chasing the wind.  Memories are hard to improve on.

Marmalade has been our traveling buddy for the last three years and this trip she was joined by our new family member Lulu.  Lulu is 12 weeks old and proved to be a great addition to our tenting adventures.  Thank you, Sidney, for being so sweet and sharing Marmie with us.  I know she has a special place in your bed every night when she is not on a trip with us.

Lulu looks a bit jealous of Marmie traveling out of a kennel.  I think she really wanted to tear her stuffing out and almost did when my back was turned one night.
Lulu supervised Johnny putting the tent up.  Actually she was looking at Lake Meridian which was right behind me and wanting to run and play in the water.  She did get to play in the big water a little bit later.
I loved this old house in Jasper TX.  We just happened upon Jasper while traveling the back roads.  The little town was so nice and flowers were everywhere.  They were having an Azalea Festival later that day.
This year the bluebonnets are only 4-6 inches tall.  Last year they were around 12 or more inches tall.  Every local Texan we talked with said it was due to the continued drought in east Texas and the crazy spring weather.
Just us and the flowers.
Barb wire and bluebonnets = Texas Hill Country!
Sight along a country road.  We could see for miles and miles and miles .........
The bb's may have been shorter and harder to find this year, but they are still just beautiful and I was happy as a dead pig in the sunshine, just clicking away.  The final count was about 800 pictures, more or less.

I'll share more Texas later.

Love Lulu looking at Marmalade (Sidney won't let me call her Marmie anymore...). Too funny!
Maybe the bb's will be better next year...
